Alcoholism and addiction to other drugs are still pervasive and devastating problems that urgently need a major reassessment. For many decades the nation has struggled in vain to overcome the ever more burdensome alcohol-drug-crime epidemic. The primary problem is that society still views the problem of addiction from within the age-old psychogenic paradigm that precludes understanding and only aggravates the problem. Stymied and wearied battling within this false paradigm, we have all but bankrupted our resolve and our hope. Nevertheless, there is an effective alternative.

As a matter of fact, there is an abundance of valid information about alcoholism scattered around the life sciences and many other information sources. The reason it is so fragmented and useless is that it cannot be assembled into a coherent whole within the defunct paradigm that is so stubbornly held in place by vested interests. Although still suppressed and withheld from public view, and therefore not yet widely recognized, during the last few decades a new biogenic paradigm has emerged that fully integrates all of the valid scientific and clinical knowledge of addiction. It assembles all valid scientific and clinical information into a complete picture, that for the first time provides clear understanding and guidance in addressing all aspects of public policy--reeducation, prevention, intervention, treatment and rehabilitation.

However, don't look for broad professional validation or public support of the truth any time soon. Those who are willing and able to fully grasp the new paradigm, the new gestalt, will also immediately see the frightening scope and power of vested interests that keep the stupefying old paradigm firmly in place.
